Friday Night

This is my Friday night, and I love it. I am drinking wine, and reading. Roxy is sleeping on my lap. I have 3 books that I would like to read for March, so I am starting today. Those books are "Lucia, Lucia", "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" and "Virgin Blue". The last 2 are for the online and regular Book Clubs that I have joined.

Dinner alone...

Makes me smile. Don't get me wrong I love my husband. However I was an only child and learned to love doing things alone. So when he has to work I enjoy that time. I went to Uncle Giuseppes' and purchased some fresh sauce, stuffed shells and garlic knots. A simple meal to put together, but it really is so good. It also goes along with the book I am finishing called Very Valentine by Adriana Trigiani. That book is about a cobbler, the beauty of Italy and hand made shoes. I would love to go to Italy and I can say that this author really has a gift for describing everything in this book. I am going to her book signing at Barnes & Nobles in 2 weeks and I am excited to hear her thoughts on Italy, shoes and women. I plan on reading more of her work.
My meal also helps with today, because it is Ash Wednesday, so Catholics believe in fasting or not eating meat today and every Friday during Lent. Lent is about giving up something 'sacrificing'. A lot of christian groups recommend adding to your life instead, by volunteering, or doing something to make your self a better person. It doesn't matter if you are religious or not, I think a lot of people could really use positive changes in their lives. I am not Catholic, my family is Methodist and doesn't exactly follow these 'rules'. I am trying to not eat meat so often, so I am going to follow these rules during lent, and maybe beyond.

Saturday

My husband and I had a fun day on Saturday. It was a nothing extremely important or exciting, but it was special to spend time with Greg alone. We went and opened a joint checking/savings account. Feels like the next step after changing my name and such. After that we went to the Home Goods in Riverhead. So since we are already on our way out east we are decided to keep going. I drove us out to Greenport and we walked around the stores that were open and I bought a few small things. In a store window was this story about why a ship is called a "She". I thought it was interesting. As I came back to the car I saw this sign "BE POSITIVE" near my car, in front of a storefront. I really do believe in that phrase and it made me laugh and smile to see it just on the side of the road like that. I had a nice day.

Wingy Wednesday

I went out on Wednesday night with some of my girlfriends. I met these lovely ladies in a strange way, off a website. We have been friends for almost 2 years at this point and they are fantastic. There is actually a bunch of girls missing from these photos. All in all it is great having friends from all walks of life and people who understand you. Plus these were some great wings, and the french fries were good too!

Ok, this doesn't look so good in this pic from my phone. But- I am really happy with the way it turned out. Planning and cooking full meals for me and my hubby is making me feel more and more domestic or wife like. It is a weird feeling.

Love.

Valentines day weekend has passed. I had a wonderful time with my husband this weekend. I can't believe what surprises have came about. Greg took me to a wonderful dinner at The 5th Season in Port Jefferson. We did this on friday to beat the crowds and have a quiet night. The food was amazing, we shared dessert and headed home. When we got home he surprised me again with a Coach Bag that I have been eyeing. I was shocked! Especially since we said no gifts, and he already gave me a ring as a wedding and valentines joint present. Saturday we were able to spend some time at home, then made our way out with Kathy for some shopping and then dinner at On The Border near Ikea. Sunday we saw my Mother in Law and also went to Gina's Batoon Twirling competition. It was about 2 hours long and she did a great job. My parents, Jackie, and Grandparents all came and it was nice being able to have a nice weekend relaxing together.

I made so Valentines cookies with a card for my co-workers. It was something kind of simple, but I was in the spirit and figured they would be surprised.

Week in Review

More snow last week, and with it brought Jury Duty for me. I was chosen as the Forewoman. It was interesting I am glad that I did it. I almost feel like I did my civic duty and did something for my community. My service ended today, with our verdict of Guilty. I wasn't sure if it would bother me that I would be making this decision with 11 other people. However after hearing / seeing all the testimony and evidence, I do feel good about our decision.
