Fast Times

This month is killing me!!! HA!!!
I have to say, be careful what you wish for. I wanted to take some courses and learn new things to spring me ahead into my field. Well, I got my wish! My boss is out on Maternity Leave, and won't be back till the end of June. I have been thrown into her position and am really getting my feet wet- I am excited that I am learning some new things, but I will be happy to hand over her job when she comes back. It is rough because they are not giving me an assistant and I have lots to do every day.
I am way behind on my goals for the month. However, I am happy with how fast time is flying every day. That means it is one day closer to my cruise next month!

Slight Name Change

Since I am no longer a "Newlywed" after 17 months of marriage, I felt maybe a name change for this blog was in order. It was from "Ms. to Mrs." but I think I might be past that honeymoon stage. Now it is Learning and Loving on Long Island. Thanks for joining me on this adventure!

Baby Showers and the Inquisition

Can be fun.... untilsomeone has to ask you that question. You know the one that I mean. It is the one that can make your skin crawl for a few reasons. The question that every married woman, and some single woman get asked "When are you going to have a baby?". That question makes me want to bang my head against the wall. Most times there is no right answer for the person who has asked, and everyone will give you their opinion in return.
Let me go back for a moment: I have said since I think I was a teenager, that I did not want children. Every female member of my family have said I will change my mind. I can take that in stride. I mean I know that the expectation is to grow up, get married, start a family (hopefully in that order). But now a days, it seems there are plenty of people who are having children when they are single, or none at all. Since we were engaged, more and more people have asked my husband and I when we were planning on having kids. "Planning? We are not planning to have kids". ((this is when the shock look comes over the inquisitors faces)). I can not tell you how many people think they have the right to ask why, or wonder if I am not 'able' to have kids. It is so hard not to scream that it is none of their business. Lately we have started to answer with very shallow reasons why we are waiting- wanting to travel, a new car, new computer, Kim likes to shop too much, we are broke. No answer is ever good enough. Who knows if we will change or minds in the future! But, unless you tell someone that you are 'trying' then something must be wrong with you. Then if you haven't had a baby fast enough, everyone will tell you HOW to get pregnant or what doctor to see.. (but I am not going into that in the blog post!)
When I was asked for maybe the 8th time this past weekend at the shower, I decided it was time to go. It was nearing cake time and the men of my family have arrived to socialize and it was just all too much. I love my family and I am thankful my Mom chimed in a few times that she has a grandchild already- meaning my Pug Roxy. So with that, I skipped the cake and met my husband at home, to snuggle on the couch with our girl, Roxy.

Meet Lb (Bryan)

Meet Bryan. This is one of my best friends in the world. He is a really great guy and sometimes knows me better than I know myself. He is a straight-edge vegan, and stands up for what he believes in, which I really admire about him.
I met Lb I in early 2000. He was a friend of a friend and I am so happy we have become so close. Lb has introduced me to many new things; from music, to books, to lifestyle choices and TV shows / movies. He is the one who showed me Twitter and blogging. He knows a lot about electronics and computer systems. I love hanging out with him, and I am lucky that I do get to see him often. He likes Starbucks just as much as I do, so that helps too! There aren't too many people you can sit and not even have to talk to but enjoy your time with. I am really thankful he is in my life.

BEEP BEEP!

I am BEYOND excited to share with you my new car! After much thought I decided to get a new car instead of waiting until my previous car (2005 Scion) was paid off like I planned. I had over 100,000 miles on my Scion and there were lots of little things, as well as a few big problems with the Scion.
I went to the Jeep dealer to just look this past Tuesday evening and I worked out a really great deal for myself. I went home to think about it, and decided that I would in fact try to see if I could get the super low 1.9% financing on my own the next day. Wednesday afternoon after waiting around the dealership for almost 2 hours, I found out I was approved and could leave with my 2010 Jeep Liberty that day! I didn't tell anyone (except Greg) because I was concerned about the financing and having them agree to pay off my Scion loan. Once they handed me the keys, I was ready to tell everyone! Everything worked out in the end.. Life is Good!
I guess my goal for this month of keeping my car clean is going to work out!

Inspired!

Today at the gym I saw a girl about my age that inspired me. She really was working out hardcore and seemed to be enjoying herself. I wanted to tell her how awesome she was, but I didn't want to break her stride! So this is what I want to say to her. She is my inspiration for the day and I appreciate having seeing her there it made me work harder too.
