I love Wineries and Farm Stands

A couple friends went with Greg and I out to Martha Clara and Duck Walk vineyard this weekend. We had a great time tasting about 10-12 different wines and 1 sangria. I bought 2 new bottles of wine, 1 from each vineyard. We also went for roasted corn at Harbes Farm Stand. Following that we made our way to Greenport and had lunch on the outdoor deck of BBQ Bill's.
It was a great way to start closing out the summer.

Getting Crafty

I have been saying for MONTHS that I wanted to take knitting and crochet classes. I was waiting for another friend who has a different schedule then I do for work- but it never worked out. Finally yesterday I signed up to start classes in Crochet for September! I am so excited. I have taken other classes in scrapbooking, cookie making and cake decorating. I love to learn new things and this should be another fun adventure.

This is where I am taking the classes. It is a local business that has a beautiful store and lots of great recommendations. I am sure I will be posting some pictures of creations to come.

What the YELP!

It is possible I am a little bit addicted with online social networking sites. In the past I have had an on line journal (9 years ago, now deleted), then a Myspace page (also now deleted). These days I have my nifty blog here, along with a Facebook page, Twitter account and a second blog with book reviews!
Then last month I learned of Yelp. Their website tag line is "Yelp is the fun and easy way to find, review and talk about what's great - and not so great in your area". It is so easy these days with my iPhone to stay connected to the world and let everyone know what I am up to. BUT the question then becomes: Who cares!?!? Apparently I do, and so do you out there. Yelp is a fun creative way to see where you go, how often, and what you think about the business that you visit. They have given titles to people who "check in" individual locations the most. You can be the "Duke, Duchess or a Regular", you could be the "King" of a whole area. So why not have a little fun a join in. Although my friend Jane is smart, she does not check in until she is leaving- that way no one knows her exact location.

Better Late.... then Never- Right?

My "August Goals" are going to be short. Mainly because I have to work on my health and why put unnecessary goals out there, when my health should be number 1!

1. Follow Doctors orders
2. Clean out all old paperwork from home files
3. Plan meals and try 2 new recipes
4. Read 2 books

Listen to your Body!

A good portion of July I was feeling sick, tired or just plain BLAH (for lack of a better word). I kept putting off any kind of Doctor visit, because I thought I was fine, or felt better after a little while. Then it would come back. Then last weekend, my health went into a downward spiral and my husband rushed me to the ER.
To make a long story short I spent 3 days in the hospital and had 5 blood transfusions. It was awful and I still have a lot of follow up to do. I wasn't expecting to be seriously ill.
As woman we usually think what ever is wrong with us is something to do with our womanly parts, or when it goes away we don't think about it. NOW I know better and will not ignore how I am feeling ever again. Word of advise from me- LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!

I didn't make any goals for August- YET- but I am working on them tonight.

Happy Birthday Nana!

This is a very old picture of my Nana (Madeline).
She passed around 10 years ago, but she was someone very important to me. She was the woman who ran this family and I think she still does from the grave. My mom and grandma will often look up and say in a joking tone "Nana,. you see this!" She had 8 children and many grandchildren. I loved spending time with her, and got to spend a lot of it while my mom (a single mother) would work. One of my fondest memories would be when I would sleep over she would have breakfast ready for me in the morning. She would fill a bowl with cereal and cut an orange in half. She would wrap them in saran wrap and leave a note with my name on it. Then in the fridge would be a glass of milk with saran wrap for the cereal. I wouldn't wake her up for breakfast that way and it was always ready.. she did this all the way until she was committed to a nursing home. It was special to me, even though it was something so simple.
Today she would have been 102 years old. I Miss you, Nana! Thanks for always looking out for our family! If I could be half the Mother and Wife she was I would be great full.
